Mind Blowing Art

I would have sworn up and down that some of these were by the legendary Alex Ross , but I would have been wrong and possibly out a few bucks. This is the handy work of artists from a German art collective known as Six More Vodka based out of Berlin.

The Quality of the work is mind blowing and if more attention to detail was put into cover work like this, the industry wouldn't have to worry about a sales lag.

Amazing. - Mac

Kingpin Skate Supply have a team rider named Sam Giles who has just been issued some choice new graphics from Australian based graphics designer, Andrew Fairclough of Kindred Studios.

There is no news on Kingpin's site currently of when this new design will be made available.

Hopefully, this design will be made available Stateside. One of my favorite new pieces that I have seen recently!

Trailer: Iron Maiden - Behind the Beast

Hitting the stores today is what feels like Iron Maiden's 100th live album, 'En Vivo'.

Recorded before a crowd of 50,000 fans in Santiago, Chile on April 10, 2011.

Don't get me wrong, I love Maiden but in the last 10 years they've released 4 live albums and only 3 studio ones. Something seems a little out of balance with that.

I have always viewed live albums and best of compilations with a cynical eye. A shameless cash grab on the part of bands who know that there are legions of completist fans out there that will buy whatever the band chooses to slap their logo on. KISS, another favorite band of mine is the most guilty player of this kind out there.

I would be interested in checking out the behind-the-scenes documentary that is included with 'En Vivo' just because I'm into that stuff. Hopefully, I'll get a chance.

If you're a Maiden fan, you already know what you're in for. - Mac

Item: Book - Commando: The Autobiography of Johnny Ramone

It has been eight years since the passing of Johnny Ramone, but he finally gets his say in book form when his autobiography is released on April 2, 2012.

The Queens, New York native talks about his life; the trials and triumphs of the band; critiques of the band's albums; obscure top ten lists amongst other things.

Plenty of things have been written about Johnny and The Ramones over the years but these are his own words and thoughts which will give a fresh prospective on the inner workings of the band from this notoriously introverted individual.

The book weighs in at 176 pages which should make for a good afternoon read. Personally, I'm looking forward to this one! - Mac

Event: Juxtapoz Magazine turns 18 today! 3/24/12

Hard to believe that Juxtapoz Magazine is celebrating 18 years in the game.

It just seems like yesterday that I picked up the first issue on a whim and I have been hooked on it ever since. I've been introduced to plenty of talent through its pages and is something that I look forward to every month. (It started out as a quarterly so I'm glad they've had the success that has allowed them to publish monthly.)

Tonight (March.24.12) there will be an opening celebration at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica, California for the magazine's anniversary. Among the artists to be featured are: Robert Williams, Shepard Fairey, Mark Ryden, Tara McPherson, Craig Stecyk and many others. The show will run through April. 14. 2012.

Information on location and time can be found at the gallery's website.

Video: Aziz Ansari's Dangerously Delicious

It took me awhile to dial into 'Parks & Recreation' but now that I have, Aziz Ansari's character, Tom Haverford is one of my favorites on the show. He has put together a stand up performance that he is calling 'Dangerous Delicious' and selling direct on his website for a mere $5.

Louis CK had recent success with the same formula of selling direct so I hope that this works out for Mr. Ansari.

You can get the download at his site.

Item: Dr. Martens 'Made In England' Brogues

As part of their new 'Made In England' collection, Dr. Martens has come out with these coffin sharp brogues.

They're a bit costly at $200+ a pair but if you've ever owned a pair of Dr. Martens before, you know the quality and life expectancy that you can depend on from their footwear.

The 'Made in England' items can be seen here.

Video: The Pogues - Thousands Are Sailing

I’m probably in an incredibly small minority when I say that St. Patrick’s Day is my LEAST favorite culturally inspired holiday. Much like Cinco De Mayo, its become incredibly far removed from its origins and celebrates the worst stereotypes of Irish culture. I hear this song however and it gives me a sense of connection to a country I’ve never been to but am bound to by blood.

Others can have their green beer and leprechaun nonsense, I’ll remember today my way.

70s Hockey Card of the Day #6

Here's one for all the fans of the enforcers. Dave Schultz in particular had one of the worst reputations in the league back in his day.

You know you're a bad ass when you stand out on a team as notorious as the Philadelphia Flyers were during the mid 1970s.
